What Happens to My Lego Pieces or Sets When I Donate to RenLUG?

When you donate Lego pieces or sets to RenLUG (Renaissance LEGO® User Group), your gift goes far beyond the bricks; it helps build creativity, joy, and community connection.

RenLUG supports builders of all ages, all abilities, and all imaginations.

New Sets: Gifts That Truly Matter New or unopened Lego sets are especially valuable. These are typically regifted during the holiday season, with a special focus on teenagers, an age group that is often overlooked by traditional toy drives and charitable gift programs. We believe that teens deserve just as much joy and inspiration as younger kids, and your donations help us provide them with meaningful, age-appropriate gifts that spark imagination and give them something to be proud of. Smaller new sets are also used throughout the year as prizes for both kids and adults. Whether it’s a building challenge, a community event, or a milestone celebration, these sets encourage participation and reward creativity across all ages.

Used Legos: Cleaned, Sorted, and Reimagined Donated used Lego bricks go through a thoughtful process:

  • Washing and sanitizing: Every piece is thoroughly cleaned to ensure safety and quality.
  • Sorting: Bricks are organized by type and color to make them easier to work with.
  • Set reconstruction: When possible, we attempt to reassemble complete sets by sourcing any missing pieces. These rebuilt sets may be donated, displayed, or used in workshops.

Creative Freedom with Partial Sets: Not all sets come in complete form — and that’s perfectly okay! In fact, some of the most incredible creations come from a mix of parts and ideas. We offer partial sets and loose bricks to kids, teens, and adults alike, encouraging them to build without instructions. These free-build opportunities lead to some of the most imaginative, unexpected, and inspiring Lego creations you’ll ever see. This open-ended building experience promotes:

  • Creativity and innovation
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Confidence and independence

Rather than being limited to the confines of a step-by-step build, these creators use specialty parts and their own ideas to build something truly one-of-a-kind.
