RenLUG – Central Florida’s LEGO® User Group

An inclusive adult LEGO® community for serious builders, creators, and collaborators inspiring builders since 2019.

RenLUG brings Adult Fans of LEGO® (AFOLs) together to build, learn, and share — from personal MOCs to large-scale collaborative creations, public exhibitions, hands-on STEM programs for kids and families, and community partnerships across Central Florida.

Wherever we can, RenLUG puts bricks in people’s hands — not just on display. Our Play Brick Build Zone lets visitors free build or tackle creative challenges, while Royal Rally Racing has kids — and more than a few adults — designing and racing their own LEGO® gravity cars.

RenLUG serves the greater Orlando metro region — core membership in Seminole, Orange & Lake Counties, with programs and events spanning nine counties and 9,500+ square miles across Central Florida. See our full service area →

Renaissance LEGO® User Group, Inc. (RenLUG)

AFOL Club Member Handbook

Adopted by resolution of the Board of Directors of Renaissance LEGO® User Group, Inc.

Section 1.0 — Program Overview

1.1 About the RenLUG AFOL Club

The RenLUG AFOL Club is a program operated by Renaissance LEGO® User Group, Inc. (RenLUG), a Florida nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting creativity, collaboration, and STEM/STEAM education through LEGO® building and community engagement.

 The AFOL Club provides opportunities for adult fans of LEGO® to connect, build, learn, and display their creations as part of RenLUG’s mission to advance education and artistic innovation.

RenLUG’s primary area of activity is Central Florida; however, membership is open to adults who share the organization’s mission and wish to participate in or support its activities. The Board reserves the right to approve or deny membership applications based on alignment with the organization’s mission, community standards, and participation expectations, regardless of geographic location.

1.2 Nature of Participation

Participation in the AFOL Club is a privilege extended by invitation or approval of the RenLUG Board of Directors. AFOL Club participants are recognized as non-voting affiliates of the corporation. They are not statutory members of the nonprofit under Chapter 617, Florida Statutes, and do not have any voting or ownership rights in the corporation.

Note: The term “member” is used informally throughout RenLUG’s materials to refer to AFOL Club participants, volunteers, and community contributors. It reflects belonging to the club community, not legal or corporate membership status.

Member-Driven Participation

At RenLUG, each member defines what participation looks like for them. Our community is built around a shared mission — using LEGO® as a hands-on medium to inspire STEM education, artistic creativity, critical thinking, and social development through public events and outreach across Central Florida.

The opportunities that make RenLUG work are created by members, led by members, supported by members, and made possible by members. Some build large-scale collaborative displays. Some design and facilitate programs. Some show up at events and help others discover confidence with the brick. Some contribute behind the scenes. There is no single way to engage with LEGO®, and there is no single way to be a meaningful part of this community — only the expectation that participation reflects our shared values of respect, creativity, and collaboration.

1.3 Governance

RenLUG operates under a deliberate two-tier governance structure that separates corporate accountability from community operations.

Corporate Governance

Renaissance LEGO® User Group, Inc. is governed by a Board of Directors comprising three corporate officers — President, Treasurer, and Secretary — who are responsible for legal compliance, financial oversight, recordkeeping, and fulfillment of all nonprofit obligations. This layer ensures organizational accountability independent of day-to-day club operations.

All AFOL Club activities operate under the ultimate authority of the Board of Directors. The Board may delegate operational responsibilities to community leads, committees, or program coordinators, but retains final discretion regarding all matters of participation, conduct, and club operation.

Renaissance LEGO® User Group, Inc. is formally incorporated in the State of Florida as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization. Current corporate officer information is publicly available through the Florida Division of Corporations at search.sunbiz.org.

Community Leadership

RenLUG’s AFOL community is guided by three operational leads with defined responsibilities:

The Director of Events coordinates public displays, conventions, collaborative builds, and community appearances. The Director of Membership oversees member engagement, onboarding, and the biannual membership review. The Director of Community Partnerships manages institutional relationships, outreach coordination, and grant development with partner organizations.

The six leadership roles — three corporate officers and three community directors — are held by six distinct individuals. There is no overlap between the corporate and community layers. This separation eliminates conflicts of interest and ensures that RenLUG’s nonprofit obligations are met independently of day-to-day club coordination.

Democratic Participation

While leadership roles provide structure and accountability, RenLUG operates democratically. Significant organizational decisions are put to a full membership vote, ensuring every member has a meaningful voice in the community’s direction.

1.4 Participation Standards

Participation in the AFOL Club is subject to the policies, Code of Conduct, and procedures described in this Handbook. The Board reserves the right to approve, deny, suspend, or revoke participation based on reasonable considerations, including but not limited to:

  • Alignment with RenLUG’s mission and community standards;
  • Conduct inconsistent with organizational values;
  • Safety or well-being concerns for other participants;
  • Prior conduct toward RenLUG, its members, or its partners that is inconsistent with organizational values, whether occurring before or after admission; or
  • Failure to comply with reasonable directives from the Board or event coordinators.

Participation is a privilege, not a right, and all decisions are made in good faith without discrimination based on any protected characteristic.

  • Refrain from defamatory, inflammatory, or antagonistic comments toward other groups, member, or organizations in any digital context connected to RenLUG;
  • Refrain from sharing information designated as confidential through any formal organizational affiliation, partnership, or program relationship entered into by RenLUG; and
